The Importance of Reading at Home

Plenty of research shows that parental involvement assists students in a number of ways in their school lives. There are many ways for parents to become involved in their child's school life: Parent-Teacher conferences , volunteering for field trips and becoming a part of an in-school organization like the PTA. However, students don't always need such hands on involvement to feel the benefits of their parents' interest in their school life. It can be as simple as reading at home . During my time as an EFL kindergarten teacher, I started to implement some of these home involvement aspects with my students. Upon reflection, I realized our students were reading a lot at home but because some of their parents weren't great at English, students' reflection and analysis of what they read in English was not as strong as it could have been.
